Sometimes people forget that there are two Lough Dergs – there is a one between the towns of Nenagh, Portumna, Scarriff, Killaoe – taking in counties Tipperary, Galway and Clare. A cycle around the lake is about 118 kilometres, about 73 miles or if you think my way – two coffee stops followed by a jacuzzi, a nice meal and a few pints.
It is not a vey difficult cycle – a bit of climbing out of Nenagh, a bit of climbing out of Killaloe but a lot of flat , or gently rolling countryside where the legs can be stretched a bit in view of a beautiful lake with little islands, some sailing boots and fishermen.
The weather was occasionally misty , a little light rain but no real weather issues.
The photographs ( minus me as I had the camera!) show the group from Youghal Cycling Club and Declan our back up driver who patiently drove behind us. the trip was organised by Sean Lawlor and everyone would do it again. Great spin.
We stayed in the Abbeycourt Hotel in Nenagh where the grub is good, the staff more than friendly and obliging and the bedrooms spacious, and the wifi works a treat!
